Luke Perry dies at 52
I was so saddened yesterday to hear about the death of Luke Perry. I can remember running home every Thursday night to watch 90210. I loved him on that show, they were all so young and had so much potential.
They weren't afraid to tackle all the topics of teenagers, sex, drugs, suicide, they touched on it all and kept us glued to our couches week after week, year after year.
If you are too young or were living under a rock during that time, Perry played Dylan McKay (he appeared from 1990-95 and again in 1998 until 2000). In the now infamous show.
He played a boy from the other side of the tracks in this ultra rich community. I watched him every week until the show ended and then I watch Melrose place, the spin off show.
Yes, I was definitely a Luke groupie and was shocked to hear about his death as so many of us were.
He was survived by his two children, son Jack, 21 and daughter Sophie, 18 who he shared with ex Rachel “Minnie” Sharp.
After reading everything on the internet, it seemed he was as sweet and kind in real life as he was on screen.
I am saddened for his young children, losing a parent so young as I too know what devastating effects it has on your life.
So many people were shocked, how can he have a stroke at 52? He kept himself in shape, he looked good, how?
Well I am a expert at life is too short. I lost my dad, he was 45, all of his siblings died before 60, my mom at 76, and grandmother at 73. Recently I lost 2 of my first cousins at 60 and 57, all from heart attacks and strokes. Hello! I know it can happen as I lived it over and over.
Why do you think I am on this treadmill at 5 am every frigging day? Why do I eat so clean? It's so I can break this generational curse on my family.
You never know, today can be your day, Friday can be your day, next week or next month, you don't know and that's why I am always preaching to live life large.
In a article in People magazine, Lukes co star from 90210 Shannon Doherty, met him for lunch the week before, she said he was great. He looked fine, of course he did, this is a silent killer, you can't see it or feel it.
It's what you've done to your body for years before or it's your family history.
Life is short and you don't get a warning sometimes that your time is going to be over.
My condolences go out to his family, his friends and the millions of us, Luke fans out there.
So today my friends, remember you never know when it will be your time, you must live in the moment, enjoy every second, start checking off things on your bucket list, live your life large, live your life as if it's your last day because it very well might be.
