Mosque shootings in New Zealand

Recently forty-nine people were killed in a shooting at two mosques in central Christchurch, New Zealand. On Friday, a terrorist attack was carried out by a white nationalist extremist who posted a racist manifesto online and then streamed live video of the attacks on Facebook.
The 28-year-old man from Australia was charged with murder and appeared Saturday morning in a Christchurch courtroom. New Zealand police identified him as Brenton Harrison Tarrant. There was also a second man, 18, who was charged with “intent to excite hostility or ill-will.”

What was going on in the heads of these two sociopaths? That they thought let's go kill innocent people who were praying with their families. That you can walk in and take the lives of people simply because they believe in something different than you do.

Who died and left you judge, jury and executioner? That your religious beliefs are better than someone else's?

It's a scary world to think that you could be minding your own business, praying in a church, a synagogue or in a mosque and someone could come in and kill you and your family.

Trust and believe, I think about that sometimes in my own church, as we are a "mega" church and are always under scrutiny. We even had a man kill his wife outside our church. You never know what will set someone off and make them do the unthinkable.

What is going on with this world? When did we become so one dimensional that we can't even tolerate another's beliefs?

I remember when a friend of mine posted a picture of two Muslim women and said some racist comments. I called him out on it and he said "Don't you remember what they did to us on 911?"

Did these two women do it? Did all the Muslims in New York city get together and do this to us? Yet your judging all people who are Muslim? Delete! I don't have time for stupid racists, sorry...bye felica!

Did we not learn our lessons after the attacks on Pearl harbor when we went around the United states and rounded up all the Japanese people? Even those born here and put them in horrible camps?
We convicted a whole nationality for the crimes of a few.

There is good and bad in all of us. In Whites, Blacks, Spanish. In Catholics, Jewish and Muslims. In Gays, Straights or Transgenders...
We all have good and bad in us, so why convict all of us for the stupidity of a few?

We all bleed the same, how many times do we need to say this, to hear this?

I grew up in New York, it's a melting pot of everything. Every block you can find Chinese food,  Lebanese food, Korean food, Italian food, Jewish food, Spanish food and Caribbean food.
There were different neighborhoods every block, yet we all lived together, we all helped one another out, we co-existed with each other, respecting each others cultures and beliefs.

Why is this so hard today? Why is it a us vs them mentality now?
We are all God's children, we may all call him by a different name, we may all pray out of a different book but we are all the same. We all believe in a higher being, we want the best for our children, we want to live in freedom and in peace. We want to believe or not believe in what we wish. This is an universal dream no matter who you are.

So today let's take a moment of silence to pray for these victims of this senseless tragedy. And let's pray for compassion, love and tolerance in a society that seemed to have lost it.
Because we all bleed red....
