How do you want your home to feel?
How do you want your home to feel?
I ask that to my clients all the time, how do you want your home to feel? Your home should rise up to meet you, it should be your refuge against the world.
Especially now that we are all stuck in our homes, now more than ever your home should be your peaceful place.
But as I see everyday being a Professional Organizer, so many people are battling with the outside world and their inside world as well. One client recently told me she would want to be anywhere else but in her home. It was because of all of the stuff that was in it, it was too overwhelming to her to want to be there.
How horrible is that? That you are running away from what should be your safe haven because you allowed your "Stuff" to take over your life. And really does all that stuff make you happy? Does it fulfill you? Does it give you peace? The answer is obviously no, it causes you stress and anxiety, enough to make you want to be anywhere but there.
And yet so many people are still buying more and more, trying to fill up something that is missing in their soul. As if yet another designer bag will make them happy, it doesn't and it never will. Trust me I know I had all the trappings, big life, fancy cars, lots of toys, money to buy it all and yet I was miserable. Money can't buy you happiness, things can't fix a broken person and yet every day we spend millions of dollars on crap we don't need.
I can't tell you how many times I've gone into clients' homes and they had me get rid of hundreds of things with the tag still on them. Things in boxes that were never open that they "needed" so bad yet here they are sitting in a pile, looking like junk now. This is a disease just like alcoholism, you have to keep acquiring stuff in order to feel good, to fill that hole you have.
You need to realize that it will never fill that hole, it will never make you feel better. I can't tell you how many clients tell me when I am done that it feels like they can breathe again. Wow, imagine that, your stuff is actually suffocating you, literally suffocating you.
I realized during this pandemic that I needed to clean out every inch of my home to get rid of things, to make my home as peaceful and calm as possible as now I was going to be spending a lot more time here. I know how it feels going into so many people's homes with so much stuff, I walk in and right away I am feeling anxiety,I feel overwhelmed, I feel stress and seriously is that what you want to feel like coming home each day?
When I come home my house rises to meet me, it is calm and peaceful. My friends and family tell me they just want to chill at my house because of the vibe here. That is what I want my house to be, that safe haven from the world, to make you feel peaceful and filled with joy.
So today, my friends, I ask you how do you want your home to feel and what are you willing to do to get it?
Are you willing to let go of the stuff that holds you down? Are you willing to do the work, to dig deep to find out why you are doing this? To expose the reasoning, the hurt and the pain to why you think your things are filling you up instead of yourself? Are you ready to do the work to be able to change your life?
Well that question is up to you, how do you want your home to feel? Your life to feel? Because chances are if your home is out of control, so is your life.
So as I say at the end of every blog, it's up to you….
